Case definitions
WHO/ECDC classification reference
Confirmed case: A person who meets the criteria above and has tested positive for Andes hantavirus in a laboratory test.
Probable case: A person who has the same symptoms as above and has had close contact with someone who is known or likely to have Andes hantavirus.
Suspected case: A person who has been on the same transport as someone with Andes hantavirus, and has a fever plus at least one of these symptoms: muscle aches, chills, headache, stomach problems (like nausea or diarrhoea) or breathing problems.
